Tianna Vozar, MA

Welcome! I’m Tianna Vozar

I recognize that life presents obstacles and challenges that can feel difficult to overcome. I believe that all of your life experiences so far have helped shape you into who you are today, and choosing therapy to explore your values, strengths, and what makes you unique can help you not only deal with life stressors but thrive towards achieving your goals. No matter what area of your life you feel could use improvement, from dealing with strong emotions to improving personal relationships, my goal is to help guide you through self-exploration that will enhance your own inner strength.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, genuine, respectful, and authentic. Others might describe me as easy to talk to, supportive, caring, compassionate, accepting, non-judgmental, and down-to-earth. One of my skills is listening carefully then asking thought provoking questions to help you see new perspectives and draw your own conclusions. I am ready to accept you for who you are and however you choose to show up each day.

In therapy with me, you can expect to feel safe, accepted, and understood. We will focus on how your past experiences have shaped you into who you are today. We will talk about your goal and identify what kind of work we can do to get you there. We will talk about how events, past or present, make you feel, and how to process the emotions that life naturally evokes. I consider the therapy space to be a reflection of the real world; therapy is likely to evoke lots of different kinds of emotions. We will use this space to practice the skills that will get you closer to your goals, whether that is learning how to process anxiety or grief, or working towards being the best version of you! Therapy is a great opportunity for self-growth and self-compassion, and I am a huge advocate for self-care! I very much look forward to meeting you and beginning this journey together.

My Professional Background

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. During this time, I also obtained minors in Gender and Diversity Studies, Peace and Justice Studies, Criminal Justice, and Sociology. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois where I am currently working towards my Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. I conduct research in areas of race, culture, and forensic studies.

I have experience working with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. I have worked with people struggling with stress, anger, trauma, relationship problems, grief, depression, anxiety, and more. I specialize in enhancing emotion regulation, frustration tolerance, interpersonal issues, and self-esteem. I have also worked in a transitional housing program, providing therapy for individuals experiencing addiction, poverty, homelessness, and incarceration.

I strongly believe that some of my own personal experiences have led me to this path and contributed to my therapeutic style. Coming from a low income, inner-city community, I have been able to witness and understand the ways in which our environments can shape our lives and beliefs. As a woman of color, and as a minority in many spaces with which I occupy, I have come to love and value the wide range of personal identities that make us all unique. As a Division I collegiate-level athlete with experience juggling multiple activities at once, I am acutely aware of the stress that life can throw at us. I truly believe the best way to move towards living our best lives is to delve into self-exploration, self-acceptance, and personal healing.
